Browne Academy is a coeducational day school enrolling 300 students in Preschool - Grade 8. We are dedicated to the development of the individual child as an independent, lifelong learner who embraces the core values of excellence, diversity, character, and community. These values form the basis for preparing students for competitive secondary schools in the metropolitan area.

Founded in 1941, the school features small class sizes and a child-centered program centered on our founder's belief in progressive education. Browne's academic environment offers an interdisciplinary curriculum that emphasizes creative problem solving and critical thinking skills. Eleven acres of fields and streams offer outdoor learning opportunities, and the school provides a foreign language program from preschool through grade 8. Extended day programming is available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and a wide range of extracurricular activities, including competitive team sports, are offered as well. The preschool program features half- and full-day options for 3- and 4-year-old students, along with a new junior kindergarten program which began in 2010.

Recent high school acceptances include Bishop Ireton High School, Bishop McNamara High School, Bishop O'Connell High School, Blue Ridge School, Christchurch School, Edmund Burke School, Episcopal High School, Flint Hill School, Georgetown Day School, Gonzaga College High School, Holton-Arms School, The Madeira School, The Maret School, Paul VI Catholic High School, The Potomac School, St. John's College High School, St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School, and Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology.
