Who can participate?

Rising 6th, 7th and 8th graders (students who will be entering 6th, 7th or 8th grade in fall of 2018) from DC, MD & VA.

How to Enter

The game of Baseball has the power to bring families and the community together. As the "All-American Pastime", it brings together a variety of sights, sounds, smells that are all a part of the baseball experience.
  1. Write a one-page essay (typed or handwritten)

  2. Base your essay on the experience you had at your very first community or professional baseball game including who you went with, what you had to eat, the sights, the sounds, the smells, the weather and what you wore!

  3. How did the experience make you feel?

  4. Your essay will be judged on content, structure, creativity.

Where to Enter

Fill out the form (see below) and email it with the essay to contactus@washingtonparent.net by September 15, 2018. Put Baseball Memory in the subject line.

Awards

9 winners (3 from each state) will receive a special "Baseball Americana" experience, acknowledgement on the Library of Congress and the Washington Parent websites, a $25 gift card to the Library of Congress gift shop and a personalized certificate to each winner.

Judges

Essays will be judged by a team of Editors and baseball fans from Washington Parent magazine. Finalists will be approved by the Library of Congress.
